Neil Siskind: Poetry

Was It You Who Hurt That Little Joy?

Who dared to harm that little girl?
She pranced and danced,
she was mother’s second chance.
She was a beauty queen of God and earth-
not by virtue of her sashes-
but by virtue of her birth.
Little boy, you keep away-
she’s not your toy to break at play.
Was it you who hurt that little joy?
Forgive him, Lord, he’s just a boy.
